 SPORTSMANSHIP:

There will only be one winner in each category. This is a competition and good sportsmanship is expected and required. Good sportsmanship is also expected of the parents, family members, friends, and neighbors. Poor sportsmanship exhibited by the contestant, family, or friends could result in the contestant being removed from the pageant or an invitation to not participate in future pageants. Remember, bravely walking on stage is a character-building experience for these young ladies. By bad-mouthing the pageant directors, judges, or other young ladies you take away the confidence they've worked so hard to build during their experience. It also makes their pageant journey less enjoyable. Bad sportsmanship will not be tolerated by anyone.

COMPETITION AGE GROUPS:

Little Miss Mississippi Hospitality                        Pre-Kindergarten - 2nd Grades

Young Miss Mississippi Hospitality                      3rd - 5th Grades

Junior Miss Mississippi Hospitality                      6th - 8th Grades

Teen Miss Mississippi Hospitality                        9th - 12th Grades

People's Choice Award for Toddlers (non-contestant)  Ages 1-4 (Special category non-competition group designed for babies and pre-k)

PROOF OF AGE AND CITIZENSHIP:

All applicants must provide either a birth certificate or a school registration form to prove age, grade, and citizenship.

 APPLICATIONS:

Participation will be accepted in each age group or on a first-come, first-served basis. Any application received without the entry fee will not be accepted until payment has been received and proof of age and citizenship has been provided and confirmed by a pageant committee member. Once an application is accepted there will be no refund of application fees. The applicant will have the opportunity to review their application for corrections or changes at the practice. No application will be forwarded to any judge prior to the contest.

CATEGORY APPLICATION CAPS:

All categories will have a cap of 15 participants.

COMPETITION AREAS:

Contestants will compete in three areas: 1) one talent presentation, 2) model appropriate pageant wear or Sunday best clothing, 3) be asked one interview question.

CONTESTANT QUALIFIERS:

This is not an OPEN pageant. Applicants must live in the state of Mississippi.

TALENT PORTION:

Only participants in the "Teen Miss," "Junior Miss," and "Young Miss" will participate in the talent portion. All talents must be performable on the state provided. No talent may include weapons of any kind or fire. Each talent must be approved by the Pageant Choreographer and/or Director before being accepted.

Contestants will be given a two-minute time limit to perform their talent. They do not have to fill out the full two-minute time frame. However, the judges will be instructed to dock points if the contestant goes over the allotted time frame. Any music or material for talent must be provided by the contestant.

ASSIGNMENT OF CONTESTANT BIB NUMBERS:

Contestant will be assigned their number upon receipt and approval of application and payment starting with #1. All applications are dated and time stamped to be sure that contestants receive the correct contestant number. Applications must be submitted online or mailed in C/O The Junior & Teen Mississippi Hospitality Pageant, Dr. Kathy Amos, P. O. Box 2683, Madison, MS 39130. Online submission is proven to be the fastest method.

Contestants will receive their numbers at the first rehearsal and be given out on the pageant day. Only one contestant number will be given to each contestant and will not be replaced. Contestant numbers should always be worn on the left hip. This allows for easy identification by the judges and audience members.

CONTESTANTS MORAL QUALIFICATIONS:

No contestants may be or may have been married. All contestants should be of good moral stature, free of drugs and alcohol, and may not have any current or past misdemeanor, state, or federal charges against them.

GROUNDS FOR LOSS OF TITLE:

Suspension from school for any reason, unsportsmanlike conduct or attitudes between queens, frequently being unprepared or inability to fulfill duties, inappropriate behavior in public or when representing the City/State as a queen, or any false information on your application is grounds for dismissal. These stipulations will continue for anyone crowned. The crown will be surrendered and given to the First Runner Up to complete the remainder of the reign should any of the above arise. It is the decision of the Pageant Committee to offer the First Runner Up the queen's title. All of the above rules will apply to the First Runner Up should she be offered the crown if the Queen is unable to full her duties.

Should a queen miss more than three mandatory city or state events, she may have to surrender her own sash, and title. The Pageant Committee will meet to determine whether the loss of title is warranted based on the individual's circumstances.

JUDGES INSTRUCTIONS:

We are looking for young girls who will be the best representatives of Miss Junior & Teen Mississippi Hospitality in all four categories. They must have confidence, composure, and overall presentation are important to the judges.

BACKSTAGE RULES:

Each contestant will be allowed one backstage assistant with them at any given time. This backstage assistant will be provided one (1) backstage pass that will give them assess to the backstage area. No other backstage helpers will be allowed due to the limited amount of space backstage. If you are having a type of professional service (hairstylist, makeup artist, etc.) assist you, your backstage assistant will have to exit the area until the service is complete. You are encouraged to come to the competition with your hair and makeup prepared in advance. Please be mindful of other contestants' belongings. DO NOT at any time touch items that do not belong to you. If you are missing something, please ask others to look around and help find the item, but do not look into others' belongings yourself.

REHEARSAL:

Rehearsals for all groups will take place on the dates listed above. Special arrangements can be made for high school girls with other mandatory obligations (cheer, etc.). It is imperative that we run through the show prior to the pageant with all backstage assistants and contestants. We are responsible for setting lights, timing, music, stage cues, and the background in advance. We strive to make you look your best and to give you the best production possible, so your full cooperation is appreciated.

VIDEOS AND PHOTOGRAPHS:

Dr. Virginia Jamison, Pageant Photographer will be on-site taking professional photos at all sessions and prior to the start of the pageant. Photo packages will be made available and can be purchased before or after the pageant. You are not required to purchase the pictures, however, we will have photo packages available for purchase. Taking a flash-free photograph at the event will be permitted. Also, please exercise courtesy and be considerate of all attendees when videotaping.

PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD:

There will be a People's Choice Award for all contestants including (Teen, Junior, Young, and Little). We also have a special category designated for toddlers ages 1-3 (not in Pre-K). Spectators vote throughout the contestant's pageant journey for the contestant they feel is the best candidate for the position. The winner (determined by the dollar amount collected) splits the proceeds 50/50 with the pageant and will be presented with a trophy. Absolutely NO CHECKS will be accepted in the People's Choice Award competition. A portion of the pageant proceeds will go to purchase Princess Bibles for each contestant and for other girls across the state of Mississippi.

The girls will create their own People's Choice Ballot Box. It will be no larger than a show box (7' X 4.5' X 12') and should show the girl's photo and name on the outside. Ballot boxes should be brought during rehearsals or on the day of the pageant. If you do not have a ballot box, you will not be eligible for the People's Choice Awards.

Being chosen to represent Miss Junior & Teen Mississippi Hospitality  Pageant is a great honor and has important responsibilities. The Queens can expect to make at least five appearances a year at various functions (e.g. ribbon-cutting ceremonies, parades, and other special events) determined by the Pageant Committee. We expect attendance at functions, but we understand there will be times when there will be conflicts in schedules or a planned vacation, etc.

GENERAL COMMENTS ON PARTICIPATION:

Please remember that "if it can happen, it will happen" to someone. We strongly recommend (especially for the Little and Young age groups) that the parent pack a bag with everything you will need for the pageant, and put it in a place that no one can get into it - including the contestant. Items we recommend that each contestant will bring:

  • A small sewing kit
  • Tights
  • Hair bows and barrettes
  • Extra pair of shoes that match
  • extra safety pins for the contestant bib number
